Principles of Cultural Reconnection
Our Missions are designed to enhance Cultural Reconnection based on the following four features:а
Cultural and Gender Specificity
It is our experience that cultural and gender specificity will enhance and affirm self and group identification and create a platform to grow in the absence of complex social barriers.а We believe it will provide participants with an opportunity to exclusively come together on the basis of shared historical and biological commonality.
Collective Action
The itinerary is structured to provide a shared common experience and participants are asked to move together as one recognizable group.а It is our expectation in the spirit of collective action and group cooperation, that participants will experience a variety of perspectives. There will be 'down time' in which you will be free to conduct independent explorations.ааа
Ongoing Shared Dialogue
A platform is provided in which the expression of ideas, opinions, sentiments, etc. will be heard as we continue to observe and process this groundbreaking event. Participants are encouraged to maintain journals and share their thoughts through ongoing dialogue so that everyone can benefit from the various perspectives and visions. Participants will be asked to attend regular debriefing meetings that will take place in a relaxed atmosphere.
African Centered Rituals and Cultural Acknowledgements
Participants will have an opportunity to participate in some of the cultural practices that originated in Africa. Getting acquainted with some of the African rituals will be a part of the immersion experience that enables participants to recognize common cultural connections. Of course, the comfort levels of the group will be revisited and honored on an ongoing basis.
